On Sunday, Michael Thorbjornsen made a decisive 26-foot putt on the final hole, clinching his inaugural PGA Tour title at the Rocket Classic. He finished two shots ahead of a competitive field that included Xander Schauffele.

At 24 years old, American golfer Thorbjornsen began the final day in Detroit trailing the leader by four strokes. However, he delivered an impressive performance on the back nine, recording a remarkable seven-under par 63—the best score of the day—as several competitors faltered.

Schauffele, a two-time major champion and Olympic gold medalist, started strong on Sunday but struggled with several putts towards the end, including a missed eagle opportunity on the 14th hole that could have regained him the lead.
Overnight leader Davis Riley had an inconsistent round, battling back from three bogeys on the front nine to get within one shot of Thorbjornsen, before ultimately bogeying the 17th hole. He finished third at 15-under. Denmark’s Rasmus Hojgaard, who had matched the course record with a 61 on Saturday, claimed fourth place at 14-under.
Despite the pressure, Thorbjornsen made the victory look relatively easy, marking his first win on the PGA Tour after previously finishing as a runner-up twice since turning professional in June 2024. The former Stanford University standout also came close to winning the Travelers Championship as an amateur in 2022.
‘I feel like I’ve been out here for a few years now. You just have to block it all out,’ he shared with CBS Sports.

After finishing the front nine two strokes behind co-leader Schauffele, Thorbjornsen made a birdie on the 10th hole with a precise wedge shot, chipped in for birdie on the 12th from the rough, and then birdied the 14th after delivering an excellent pitch that left the ball just inches from the hole.
