In a decisive opening match of the AHF Junior Men’s Asia Cup, held on Saturday in Moqi, India showcased their strength by defeating Indonesia with a staggering score of 14-0. This victory marks a strong start to India’s title defense in the tournament, setting a high standard for their performance in Pool A.
Yadav added another four minutes later to make it 4-0. The Indian forward line continued to find openings in the second quarter. Anmol got his first goal of the match in the 16th minute when the Indonesian defence was penalised with a penalty stroke. There was little respite for Indonesia after the break, with India continuing to dominate possession and territory. Anmol was particularly effective from set-pieces, converting penalty corners in the 35th and 42nd minutes to add two more goals to his tally. The final quarter proved to be the most productive period of the match as India found the net five more times. Anmol completed his four-goal haul in the 51st minute, before Prabhdeep scored again a minute later to bring up his fifth goal of the match.
Dominant Performance by Captain Anmol Ekka and Team
In a commanding display, Captain Anmol Ekka, Prabhdeep Singh, and Ajeet Yadav led their team to an impressive victory, scoring a total of 12 goals in the tournament. Prabhdeep Singh was the standout player, netting five goals and earning the ‘Player of the Match’ accolade. Anmol Ekka contributed significantly with four goals, while Ajeet Yadav completed the trio with a hat-trick, scoring three times. Harpal and Ashu Maurya added two more goals to secure the win for the five-time champions, who have clearly asserted their dominance early in the tournament.
