Asian Games gold medallist Pranavi Urs shot a two-under 70 to be three shots off the lead after the first round of the Hero Women’s Indian Open at the DLF Golf and Country Club course in Gurugram on Thursday. The 23-year-old overcame a sixth-hole bogey with three birdies, on the 8th, 14th and 17th, to be tied fourth when she finished her round early in the afternoon.
Shannon, 22, was tied second with Magdalene Simmermacher of Argentina at 4-under for the tournament. Shannon, who has been Pranavi’s friend for a long time, spoke about their bond after a smooth start to the tournament she won last year, and finished second in 2024.
Pranavi, who finished fourth last year, said: “My round wasn’t, I mean it’s pretty good but it was a bit of a struggle. My ball striking wasn’t the best but I somehow managed to get that to two-under. “To be fair, I actually missed a few shots out there, like the putts that didn’t drop. Overall, I’m bogey-free and I take that in with me any day, especially on this course.
I was quite consistent out there today.”
