With Pro League berth at stake, Indian women eye positive start against USA

Nagoya, Neeru Dhanda on Tuesday scripted history by becoming India’s first shooter to win an Asian Games gold medal in the women’s trap individual event here, smashing the continental record in the process.

The 26-year-old from Haryana, who became the first Indian woman to win a World Cup gold medal in trap event at the Shotgun World Cup in Italy in July, won the gold here with a score of 28, surpassing the previous Asian Record of 24. The Indian men’s trap team of Chenai, Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Prithviraj Tondaiman had won gold at the previous edition in China.

The Indian men’s trap team, however, finished a disappointing sixth among 10 teams. Kuwait clinched the men’s team gold with 355, while Qatar and Kazakhstan took the silver and bronze respectively. This was after she carried India to a silver medal in the women’s trap team event. The Chinese team comprised Liu Shanshan, Sun Yunong and Zhu Jingyu.
