India commenced its Asian Games 2026 campaign on September 20 with a strong performance, securing two silver medals in shooting on the opening day. The women’s 25m air rifle team, consisting of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar, and Vidarsa Vinod, earned the first medal for the country. Valarivan further added to her accolades by winning a silver in the women’s 25m rifle individual event.
In addition to these achievements, India is guaranteed at least two more medals. MMA athlete Suchika Tariyal has qualified for the semi-finals in the women’s 60kg traditional event, securing at least a bronze for the nation. Meanwhile, the Indian women’s cricket team has advanced to the final, ensuring another silver medal for India.
