EAGAN, Minn. — The evidence for Aaron Jones that the Minnesota Vikings have taken a more aggressive approach to improving their rushing attack appeared often during offseason practices and training camp.
Vikings Offensive Line Updates and Rushing Game Challenges
The Minnesota Vikings improved to 11th in the NFL for yards per rushing attempt last season, marking their first time in four years outside the league’s bottom quarter under head coach Kevin O’Connell. However, following quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s challenging debut, the team recognized the need for further enhancement in their ground game.
Left tackle Christian Darrisaw and right guard Will Fries are both recovering from significant injuries. In the 2024 season, both players underperformed expectations. Although Fries participated in every game, he failed to deliver the impact the Vikings hoped for after being a key free agency signing. Darrisaw struggled with his reconstructed knee, playing only 50% of the snaps in 2025.
Wide receiver Justin Jefferson commented on the offensive line’s potential, stating, “We’ve been looking really, really good in training camp, seeing the guys come off the ball and move people around up front. They’re the tone setters and really what makes the whole offense go. We’re definitely looking forward to that this season.”
Vikings’ Jones Prepares for Season Opener Against Packers
Running back Jones is set for his third season with the Minnesota Vikings after accepting a pay cut. This marks his 10th year in the NFL. The Vikings will face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon, a team that released him in 2024.
Coach Matt LaFleur praised Jones, noting his dynamic play despite increased wear and tear. “Yes, he’s got more wear and tear, but the guy’s a dynamic player and a dynamic person, and he can really hurt you,” LaFleur said.
