Reports indicate that he is confident that the backing from several countries in Africa, Asia, and South America will help him secure his position.
Pressure has intensified, particularly after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his lack of confidence in Infantino, labeling it a potentially devastating blow. Carney criticized the botched commercial initiative, deeming it a significant governance failure due to inadequate consultation with senior FIFA officials and board members.
FIFA’s chief of global football development, Arsene Wenger, also distanced himself from the contentious proposal. He stated, “The decision to withdraw the project was not only necessary but crucial, as I firmly believe in an independent FIFA committed to our game with transparency and integrity.”
