Sindarov to play the fourth season of GCL

Bengaluru: Later this year, Javokhir Sindarov is set to compete in a significant match. Despite this crucial upcoming event, it’s noticeable that he is participating in several tournaments as part of his preparations.

Event Context

The 20-year-old Uzbek Grandmaster, who will face Gukesh in the World Championship match this November, is currently engaged in a series of competitions, including the Grand Chess Tour, the World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships, the inaugural Daniel Naroditsky Memorial Rapid and Blitz tournament, as well as the Chess Olympiad. He is set to arrive in India this September alongside a host of chess legends, including world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen, to participate in the fourth season of the Global Chess League (GCL).

The GCL is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from September 3 to 13, just prior to the Olympiad in Samarkand. Notably, two prominent Indian players, reigning world champion Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa, will be absent from the event. Gukesh, who is currently experiencing a dip in form, is expected to compete next at the Chennai Grand Masters in July, following his participation in Norway Chess, which wrapped up in early June. His only other tournament appearance before the championship match is likely to be the Olympiad.
